Kochi IPL: Elephant lovers launch protest against the IPL Cricket team Kochi Tuskers Kerala

KOCHI: The Elephant Lovers Association on Tuesday came in the open against the IPL Cricket team Kochi Tuskers Kerala for the misuse of the animal for video casting.The Elephant Lovers Association said that on Tuesday, a regional newspaper had published reports about the Kerala IPL team planning to feature two tuskers in its theme song. “The exhibition of captive elephants for commercial purpose is in violation of the Kerala Captive Elephant Management and Maintenance Rule 2003, the Performing Animals Registration Rule 2001, PCA Act 1960 and the Declaration of Wildlife Stock Rule 2003,” Elephant Lovers’ Association secretary V K Venkitachalam said.The Association has already sent a letter to the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), Revenue Minister, Home Minister, State Animal Husbandry department and other authorities concerned.“To the best of our knowledge, neither the managers of IPL Kochi cricket team nor director Priyadarsan had been granted pre-shoot licence by AWBI, Chennai, for shooting two tuskers in the last leg of their advertisement film,” said Venkitachalam.
